September 3rd   COUNCIL MEETING

·       Passed Ordinance #703 to refund 2016A & 2016B notes and incur lease rental debt in order to take advantage of currently available interest rates and save at least $173,000.00.

·       Appointed Scott Brumbaugh to fill the 1st Ward Council Vacancy, term ends January 6, 2020.

·        Recognized Jennifer’s Salon & Consignment Shop for her beautification efforts downtown.

·       Agreed to fund Weona Park Centennial Calendar.

·       Agreed to Change Order #4 for Lookout Fire Station in the amount of $12,243.59.

·       Agreed to allow Faith United Presbyterian Church to close S. Heller Avenue to alley for Apple Festival on Saturday, October 5, 2019.

·       Conditionally approved subdivision at 522/524 George Street upon granting of variance and conditions met from engineer’s review letter.

·       Passed Ordinance #702 amending Section 103-11.3B of the Pen Argyl Traffic Ordinance

 to limit handicap parking to the individual who applied and was approved for space.

·       Agreed to refinance the Fire Station Loan to take advantage of currently available interest rates and save an estimated $317,000.00.

·       Accepted Neighborhood Revitalization Proposal from Simone Collins/Urban Partners. 

·       Adopted Resolution 2019-03 accepting COG’s Articles of Agreement changes.

·       Adopted Resolution 2019-04 approving grant application for improvements to Weona Park hamburger and sausage stands.

·       Adopted Resolution 2019-05 & 2019-06 approving grant applications for ADA improvements for the Borough Hall. 


            In the past month, the PWD did maintenance on equipment, Borough property and streets.

·       Maintained & repaired trucks, prepped mowers and tractors.

·       Daily maintenance and or cleaning of park properties and buildings.

·       Weekly lawn maintenance on Borough properties.

·       Pot hole patrols.

·       Basin cleanings & storm washouts.

·       Removed weeds and organic debris from former tennis courts.

·       Prepped park for Labor Day Celebration.

·       Meter checks and coin collection. 


In the past month, the Zoning/Code Office completed 6 re-sale property inspections, 11 rental property inspections, issued 2 building permits, 3 electrical permits, 2 plumbing permits, 3 yard sale permits and processed 7 rental registrations and 1 zoning permit.  The Zoning Officer can be reached at 610-863-1821 or at 


             In August officers responded to 620 calls for service, with 180 in Pen Argyl. 


            The Fire Company responded to 12 calls in the month of August.  There were 128 hours spent on drills and 198 on calls for a total of 326 man hours by our volunteers.   For more information on any of these announcements please email or call 610-863-4121.


            Monthly, weekly and quarterly sampling was done, all are complying with regulations. Equipment, plant and pumping station maintenance was completed. Pumping Stations, EQ tanks cleaned.  Answered and marked 8 PA One Calls. UV scheduled maintenance completed.  Annual generator service completed, new water actuator installed and SBR motive pump seal removed and repaired.

            It is the responsibility for all landlords to get property inspected prior to a new tenant moving into the property and to update the tenant registration form.  If you are in arrears with any Borough fees you will not get a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) to occupy the building. 



            The Slate Belt Bash will be held on September 29, 2019 at Weona Park, Pen Argyl from 11 A.M. to

4 P.M.  Road Rally Scavenger Hunt from 9 A.M. to 12 P.M. REGISTRATION DEADLINE  9/6/19.   There will be food trucks, beer and wine, FREE games for children and teens and live music from 2 local bands.  Contact Stephen at 484-523-0900 or for more information.


            Borough Newsletter- The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting. Garbage/Recycling – Recycling will be on September 13th & 27th and October 11th & 25th. Garbage Pickup will be delayed to September 7th due to Labor Day Holiday.  Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before 2 P.M. on the day before pickup.  Mark your calendars for 3rd Annual Chili Cook -off, 10/5 12 Noon – 4 P.M.
