With deep regret Pen Argyl Borough accepted the resignation of Mayor Mikal Sabatine as he has accepted a position as the Williams Township Manager.  We wish Mikal much success and congratulations to Williams Township for choosing a dedicated, qualified individual for the position.

·       Approved Change Order #1 for Lookout Fire Station #1 for steel price increase.

·       Approved the 2019 Cost Formula for Pen Argyl’s portion of the Slate Belt Regional Police Department funding.

·       Awarded Chubb the Builders’ Risk Policy for Fire Station project.

·       Approved Faith United Presbyterian Church’s request for S. Heller Avenue closure for Apple Festival on 10/6/2018 from 3:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M.

·       Accepted the resignations of Kimberly and William Casamassima from the Planning Commission.  Will advertise for replacements.

·       Approved the following Resolutions:

                              2018-10-  Appointing Walter Cole as Town Historian

                              2018-11- Approving grant application to Monroe County LSA for Lobb Ave.

                              2018-12- Approving grant application to Northampton & Lehigh County LSA for Lobb Ave.

                              2018-13- Approving grant application to Monroe County LSA for SBRPD vehicles.

      2018-14- Approving grant application to Northampton & Lehigh County LSA for SBRPD            


·       Approved sending letter to DEP regarding fill guidance.

·       Approved Memorandum of Agreement with the Teamsters.

·       Approved letter to JD Morrisey regarding B Street sidewalks.

·       Approved letter to Ethics Commission regarding clarifying open & public process.



            In the past month, the PWD did maintenance on equipment, Borough property and streets.

·       Daily maintenance of park properties and buildings.

·       Prepared Park for Labor Day Celebration.

·       Weekly lawn maintenance on Borough properties.

·       Prepared for Delabole Junction Road and Arch Street projects

·       Maintenance and cleaning of Community Center, Hamburger Stand and Sausage Stand.

·       Painted crosswalks.

·       Installed new pedestrian crossing signs on Route 512.

·       Catch basin cleaning and wash outs.

·       Meter checks and repairs.



In the past month, the Zoning/Code Office completed 8 re-sale property inspections, 14 rental property inspections, issued 1 building permit, 1 electrical permit, 3 sidewalk permits and 3 yard sale permits. 3 rental inspections and 6 re-sale inspections were completed.  The office also processed 4 zoning applications.  The Zoning Officer can be reached at 610-863-1821 or at

            The Fire Company responded to 11 calls in the month of August.  There were 234 hours spent on drills and 286 on calls for a total of 520 man hours by our volunteers.  Thanks again to the Fire Fighters for a wonderful Labor Day Celebration and parade!



            Monthly, weekly and quarterly sampling was done, all are complying with regulations. Equipment, plant and pumping station maintenance was completed. Centrifuge conveyor issue resolved with hard work and teamwork.   Thank you to the team for their dedication. Answered and marked 67 PA One Calls. UV system cleaned and serviced.

             If you are moving into, within or out of the Borough it is essential for you to come to the Borough Office and obtain a moving permit. The cost for the permit is $1.  This includes any individual moving in with a roommate or with a family member.  This permit is necessary for school enrollment and per capita taxes.  Upon obtaining a permit you will receive a welcome packet with important Borough information.  If you are moving out of the Borough, you must obtain a moving permit, or you will continue to be billed for the per capita tax.


            Borough Newsletter- The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting. It can be found on our website at and you can receive the newsletter online by going to our website and requesting it. While on the web site make sure you like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter!!!!!

Garbage/Recycling – Recycling will be on September 14th & 28th and October 12th & 26th.  Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before 2 P.M. on the day before pickup.

Park hours – All sections of the park are now closed at dusk.

Curfew – Minors are reminded that Pen Argyl has a curfew.  Minors under the age of 18 are not to be on any public street, alley, and sidewalk or at Weona Park between the hours of 11 P.M. and 6 A.M.

Blue Mountain Community Library-  Upcoming fund raisers; Café on Broadway- 9/20- 11 A.M. -7 P.M. And Wendy’s – 9/26- 5 P.M. -8 P.M.  Book Club –9/18 – Never Caught by Erica Armstrong Dunbar; 10/16 – The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah; 11/20 – Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann. Book group meetings begin at 6:30 PM.  The public is invited to the next board meeting, scheduled for 9/19 at 6:30 P.M.
