Borough Council appointed Michael Nasatka as Pen Argyl Borough Mayor. Michael has a long history of civic participation, he was previously a Council member for 17 years, serving as Council President for 11 of those years. Congratulations to Mayor Nasatka.

·       Approved the route of the Friends of Nicole proposed walk on November 10, 2018.

·       Appointed Mayor Michael Nasatka as delegate and Council President Joseph LeDonne as alternate to the Slate Belt Regional Police Commission.

·       Approved Resolution 2018-15 supporting the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission’s application to the Monroe County LSA Grant program for a multi-municipal comprehensive plan.

·       Agreed to advertise Ordinance #699 regulating outdoor open burning.

·       Agreed to meet for budget workshop 11/14, tentative budget adoption 11/27 and adoption and regular meeting on 12/11.

·       Approved Bonfire Lease with the Pen Argyl School District.

·       Agreed to allow the girl scouts to decorate the parking meters during the winter holiday season.



Leaf collection will begin 10/29/18-11/16/18, there will be no collection the week of 11/19, collection resumes on 11/26 and will end 12/07.  Please note leaves will not be picked up if they have sticks, acorns or animal feces in the piles. These materials can cause malfunctions with the machinery and become dangerous to our employees.  Avoid putting leaves out 2 days before rain or foul weather, especially in the hilly areas of the Borough.  During storms leaf piles can clog storm basins and cause water damage to streets and private property.  Whenever possible, park away from leaf piles so the workers can maneuver the equipment and clean up more thoroughly.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding the scheduling of the leaf pick-up, please call the Public Works Office at 610-863-9249, leave your name, address and brief message, your call will be return at the earliest possible convenience.

In the past month, the PWD did maintenance on equipment, Borough property and streets.

·       Daily maintenance of park properties and buildings.

·       Daily cleanup of Labor Day Celebration.

·       Weekly lawn maintenance on Borough properties.

·       Moved soil piles and graded all around new salt shed.

·       Maintenance and cleaning of Community Center, Hamburger Stand and Sausage Stand.

·       Removed and replaced basketball backboard.

·       Reported two streetlight outages.

·       Catch basin cleaning and wash outs.

·       Meter checks and repairs.



In the past month, the Zoning/Code Office completed 6 re-sale property inspections, 11 rental property inspections, issued 1 building permit and 1 electrical permit.  The office also processed 5 zoning applications and 1 planning application.             Slate Belt Regional responded to 603 calls for service in September 173 were in Pen Argyl.             The Fire Company responded to 11 calls in the month of September.  There were 223 hours spent on drills and 218 on calls for a total of 441-man hours by our volunteers. 



            Monthly, weekly and quarterly sampling was done, all are complying with regulations. Equipment, plant and pumping station maintenance was completed. Answered and marked 28 PA One Calls. Annual calibration of flow meter, well meters read and retrofitted a drain in the event of a centrifuge conveyor failure.

            It is the responsibility for all landlords to get property inspected prior to a new tenant moving into the property and to update the tenant registration form.  If you are in arrears with any Borough fees you will not get a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) to occupy the building. 



             If you are moving into, within or out of the Borough it is essential for you to come to the Borough Office and obtain a moving permit. The cost for the permit is $1.  This includes any individual moving in with a roommate or with a family member.  This permit is necessary for school enrollment and per capita taxes.  Upon obtaining a permit you will receive a welcome packet with important Borough information.  If you are moving out of the Borough, you must obtain a moving permit, or you will continue to be billed for the per capita tax.


            Borough Newsletter- The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting. It can be found on our website at and you can receive the newsletter online by going to our website and requesting it. Garbage/Recycling – Recycling will be on October 12th & 26th, Nov. 9th and because of Thanksgiving Holiday the Nov. 24th.  Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before 2 P.M. on the day before pickup.

Park hours – All sections of the park are now closed at dusk.

Curfew – Minors are reminded that Pen Argyl has a curfew.  Minors under the age of 18 are not to be on any public street, alley, and sidewalk or at Weona Park between the hours of 11 P.M. and 6 A.M.

Blue Mountain Community Library-  Fundraiser at The Slate Pub, 10/16- 11A.M. to Closing. Silent Auction in November.   Book Club:  10/16 – The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah; 11/20 – Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann. Book group meetings begin at 6:30 PM.  Storytime every Wed. & Thurs at 10:30 A.M. The public is invited to the next board meeting, scheduled for 10/17 at 6:30 P.M.
