MAY 2019



§  Morgan Haros, winner of the 2019 Essay Contest, read her essay to the Borough Council and was presented with a check to help with her continuing education.

§  Appointed Scott Brumbaugh, Philip H. Viglione, Ann Ealey and Lisa Larsen-Kandl to the Weona Park Pool Feasibility Study Committee.

§  Agreed to go out to bid for road reconstruction on Lobb Avenue.

§  Agreed to allow Faith United Presbyterian Church to close S. Heller Avenue to alley for Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 22, 2019.

§  Agreed to allow ICS to close N. Heller Avenue between E. Bell Avenue and E. Babbitt Avenue for their Mayfair on Thursday, May 16, 2019.

§  Agreed to have a rate study done to review sewer rates.

§  Agreed to renew insurance with Weiss-Schantz.

§  Agreed to purchase new sign for Borough Hall with assistance from Slate Belt Rising.

§  Agreed to apply for Northampton County Hotel Tax Grant for ADA improvements to stands in Weona Park.

§  Agreed to meet with No Nonsense Neutering to discuss feral cat solutions.



            During the month of April, the Public Works Department performed scheduled maintenance tasks and completed all requested tasks.   



Please note FINAL notices for rental registration invoices were sent out.  If you do not register your rental, you will be cited and fined. If you have any outstanding bills to the Borough your rental license may be revoked.

In April the following permits were issued:  4 building, 1 electrical, 1 plumbing, 1 sidewalk and 1 zoning permits.  Also completed; 76 rental property licensing registrations, 3 rental inspections and 9 re-sale property inspections. Landlords are reminded to contact the Zoning Officer to register rental properties and to schedule inspection of rental properties to comply with the Licensing of Rental Properties Ordinance.             SBRPD has a prescription medicine drop box at headquarters. In March SBRPD responded to 565 calls for service, 190 in Pen Argyl.



            In April the Lookout Fire Company responded to 19 calls.  They spent 308 hours on calls and logged an additional 212 hours on drills.  Spring Festival will be held Thursday, May 23rd through Sunday, May 26th.  For more information check Lookout Fire Company website:



            Monthly, weekly and quarterly sampling was done, all comply.  Equipment, plant and pumping station maintenance was completed.  Answered and marked 36 PA One Calls.  UV system 8 bulbs replaced, and system cleaned. Equalization tanks cleaned. West End pumping station pump #2 repaired.

If you are moving into, within or out of the Borough it is essential for you to come to the Borough Office and obtain a moving permit. The cost for the permit is $1.  This includes any individual moving in with a roommate or with a family member.  This permit is necessary for school enrollment and per capita taxes.  Upon obtaining a permit you will receive a welcome packet with important Borough information. 



            Borough Newsletter- The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting.  It can be found at the Borough Hall or on our website at .   You can receive the newsletter by email by contacting: and requesting it.  You will need to provide your name, address and email contact. 



Garbage/Recycling –Garbage collection is every Friday.  Due to Memorial Day it will be on Saturday, June 1st. Recycling will be on May 10th & 24th, as well as.  June 7th & 21st.  Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before 2 P.M. on the day before pickup. Blue Mountain Community Library- Silent auction at the library, place bids from through Saturday, 5/25. The next board meeting is scheduled for 5/15 at 6:30 P.M. Adult book discussion group selections: 5/21 – The Only Woman in the Room by Marie Benedict; 6/18- The Subway Girls by Susie Orman Schnall. Book group meetings begin at 6:30 P.M.  Preschool storytime is held Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 A.M. Come for a story and related craft or activity!

Community Yard Sale- No permit needed.  June 7th -9th.
