PEN ARGYL BOROUGH NEWS

MAY 2018

 

APRIL 24th SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING

·        Awarded the First Annual Government Essay Contest to Jocelynn Itterly.  

·        Renewed Borough insurance with Weiss-Schantz Insurance.

 

MAY 1st COUNCIL MEETING

·        Agreed to engage Concord Finance to assist in the financing of the Lookout Fire Company new station.

·        Authorized Solicitor to prepare borrowing ordinance for the financing of the Lookout Fire Station.

·        Awarded the Lookout Fire Station Bid to NuCor Management in the amount of $3,674,000.00 contingent upon financing and engineer reviews. The Borough has received $1.5 million in grants to offset this cost.

·        Awarded Salt Shed bid to Dutchman Contracting, LLC in the amount of $$236,666.00 contingent upon engineering review. The Borough has been awarded $100,500.00 in grants to offset this cost.

·        Authorized Public Works Director Steven Bender to proceed with basin repairs in various areas of the Borough.

·        Adopted Resolution #2018-05 amending the Pen Argyl Athletic & Park Board Association’s by-laws to combine two membership criteria into one.

·        Agreed to send letter of opposition to NJDOT regarding the RT 80 Rock Mitigation Project.

·        Agreed to let ICS close a portion of N. Heller Avenue on May 24, 2018 contingent upon review by Public Works.

·        Approved the purchase of a new tractor for the wastewater treatment plant.

·        Approved an extension of the 2017 contract with Waste Management for sludge removal.

·        Adopted Resolution #2018-06 authorizing the Borough Manager to apply for Greenways Grant for pool feasibility study.

·        Adopted Resolution #2018-07 authorizing the destruction of audio files of public meetings after minutes have been approved.

·        Accepted the resignation of Mark Davis, public works employee.

 

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

            In the past month, the PWD did maintenance on equipment, Borough property and streets.

·        Maintained & repaired trucks, prepped mowers and tractors for seasonal work.

·        Prepped Carousel for summer season.

·        Assembled & activated water lines at park.

·        Maintained rain garden at Borough Hall.

·        Installed valve pit over water line in ball field.

·        Assisted WWTP tree removal.

·        Litter patrol.

·        Maintenance and cleaning of Community Center.

·        Pot hole patching.

·        Reported streetlight outages and repaired various street signs.

·        Tree maintenance

·        Meter checks.

·        Continued to work on B Street issues.

 

 

ZONING OFFICE

In the past month, the Zoning/Code Office completed 3 re-sale property inspections, 7 rental property inspections, issued 2 building permits, 1 electrical permit, 1 sidewalk permit, 2 yard sale permits, 1 fence permit and processed 20 rental registrations.  2nd notices to landlords for rental registrations went out in March, if not paid you will be cited and fined.  The Zoning Officer can be reached at 610-863-1821 or at zoning@penargylborough.com 

 

POLICE DEPARTMENT

             In April the Regional Police responded to 601 calls for service, 170 in the Borough of Pen Argyl.   Contact information for the SBRPD is:  911 (Emergency), 610-759-8517 (Non-Emergency) and 610-759-8523 (Fax). 

 

 

LOOKOUT FIRE COMPANY

            The Lookout Fire Company’s Spring Festival will be held 5/24 through 5/27 at Weona Park with live entertainment, rides, food, bingo, and more. The Fire Company is looking for additional food suppliers, crafters, vendors, local businesses, or even organizations looking for a great fundraiser opportunity for the weekend. The James Davey Social Hall at 11 N. Robinson Avenue is available to rent for all your parties, family gatherings or any other occasions. The hall accommodates up to 75 people with a full kitchen and more.  Lookout Fire Company is always seeking new members.  If you are over the age of 14 and want to have the chance to be a part of a great community team. WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

            Monthly, weekly and quarterly sampling was done, all are in compliance. Equipment, plant and pumping station maintenance was completed. Pumping Stations, EQ pumps cleaned and repaired.  Answered and marked 43 PA One Calls. UV System logic controller replaced. HVAC system serviced, DEP inspection completed and BVA pump transfer switch replaced.

 

TAX COLLECTOR

            Michael T. Zavacky, the office is located at 501 George Street, phone number 610-863-9487.  2018 office hours will be Thursdays and Fridays, 1 P.M. – 5 P.M. and Saturdays 9 A.M.-Noon through May 31st, after that by appointment only.   Any person with disabilities, please call ahead for special arrangements.

 

MOVING PERMIT REMINDER

             If you are moving into, within or out of the Borough it is essential for you to come to the Borough Office and obtain a moving permit. The cost for the permit is $1.  This includes any individual moving in with a roommate or with a family member.  This permit is necessary for school enrollment and per capita taxes.  Upon obtaining a permit you will receive a welcome packet with important Borough information.  If you are moving out of the Borough, you must obtain a moving permit or you will continue to be billed for the per capita tax.

 

LANDLORD RESPONSIBILITY

            It is the responsibility for all landlords to get property inspected prior to a new tenant moving into the property and to update the tenant registration form.  If you are in arrears with any Borough fees you will not get a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) to occupy the building. 

 

            Borough Newsletter- The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting. It can be found on our website at www.penargylborough.com and you can receive the newsletter online by going to our website and requesting it. While on the web site make sure you like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter!!!!!

Garbage/Recycling – Recycling will be on May 11th & 25th and June 8th  & 22nd.

Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before 2 P.M. on the day before pickup.

Park hours – All sections of the park are now closed at dusk.

Curfew – Minors are reminded that Pen Argyl has a curfew.  Minors under the age of 18 are not to be on any public street, alley, and sidewalk or at Weona Park between the hours of 11 P.M. and 6 A.M.

Blue Mountain Community Library- Fundraiser at Detzi’s Tavern- 5/21.  Nature Adventure Program -6/22-Owls; 7/13-Composting; 8/17- Recycling.  Book Club -5/15 Little Fires Everywhere by Celest Ng. Book group meetings begin at 6:30 PM.  The public is invited to the next board meeting, scheduled for 5/16 at 6:30 P.M.
