PEN ARGYL BOROUGH NEWS

MAY 2021

 

May 4th COUNCIL MEETING

·       Agreed to apply for CDBG and Greenways Grant Programs for funding for phase one of replacement and improvements to Weona Park’s playground.

·       Approved Handicap Parking application for 500 W. Pennsylvania Avenue.

·       Agreed to reopen Weona Park for the summer season as per Governor Wolf’s lifting of COVID restrictions on May 31, 2021.

·       Agreed to purchase approved budget items for the wastewater treatment plant: trash pump; overhangs for entryways; and repair spare centrifuge.

·       Agrees to Collier’s Engineering proposals for E. Babbitt Ave. and W. Main St. force main replacement.

·       Approved new personnel evaluations and wage model to be implemented.

·       Agreed to Altronics proposals to upgrade security network for 3G/4G wireless ending.

 

PUBLIC WORKS

            During the month of April, the Public Works Department performed scheduled maintenance tasks and completed all requested tasks.   

 

ZONING/CODE DEPARTMENT

Please note rental registration invoices were due March 1, 2021. If you do not register your rental you will be cited and fined. If you have any outstanding bills to the Borough your rental license may be revoked. In April, the following permits were issued:  1 commercial building, 2 residential, 4 fence and 1 dumpster.   Also completed; 5 residential re-sale property inspections, 2 commercial re-sale property inspection, 9 rental inspections and processed 21 rental registrations. There were 6 Zoning applications processed. Landlords are reminded to contact the Zoning Officer to schedule inspection of rental properties to comply with the Licensing of Rental Properties Ordinance. Violators can be fined.  The Zoning Officer can be reached at 610-863-1821 or at zoning@penargylborough.com  

 

LOOKOUT FIRE COMPANY

            In March, the Lookout Fire Company responded to 11 calls.  They spent 226 hours on calls and logged an additional 166 hours on drills.  Keep checking facebook and web page for updates on Spring Celebration at Weona Park the end of May!   Lookout Fire Company’s website: www.lookoutfireco.com or check out their Facebook page.


WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

            Monthly, weekly, and quarterly sampling was done, all comply.  Monitoring reports and lab results are compiled and submitted as required.  Equipment, plant, and pumping station maintenance was completed.  Answered and marked 34 PA One Calls. UV system cleaned and serviced.  West End pump station force main repaired 4/1/2021.  EQ tanks cleaned.

 

TAX COLLECTOR

            Real Estate and Per Capita payments will no longer be received in person at 501 George Street,

Pen Argyl, PA, please utilize black drop off box located at same location. If receipts are needed, please have both parts of bill enclosed in the drop off box. You can also mail your payments to: Pen Argyl Tax Collector, 501 George Street, Pen Argyl, PA 18072. Please call 610-863-9487 if you have any questions. 

 

BOROUGH NEWSLETTER

            Borough Newsletter- The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting.  It can be found on our website at www.penargylborough.com .   You can receive the newsletter by email by contacting: manager@penargylborough.com and requesting it.  You will need to provide your name, address, and email contact.  You can also find us on Facebook.

Garbage/Recycling –Garbage collection is every Friday.  Recycling will be on May 7th & 21st, as well as June 4th & 18th.  Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before 2 P.M. on the day before pickup.

Dog LicensesResidents are reminded to renew their dog licenses. Licenses can be purchased at http://www.padoglicense.com or by contacting Northampton County at 610-829-6186, option 6.

Blue Mountain Community Library-.  Check library website for hours and curbside service.  Book Discussion Group meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:00 P.M. in library parking lot: 6/8- The Book of Lost Names, by Kristin Harmel.  Virtual preschool story time and craft, 5/24 last one till fall, call for your craft packet! As guidelines change due to the COVID-19 pandemic emergency, please continue to check with the Borough office, website, newsletter email and facebook as to the status of Borough meetings.  Some meetings will be held via video and audio advanced communication using the ZOOM internet application technology and telephone option, some meetings may be held in person.  If by Zoom, the meeting link and password or call-in information for the meetings can be obtained by emailing the Borough Manager at manager@penargylborough.com no later than 4:00 P.M. on a day of a meeting.   If held in person the location and time of the meeting will be on all Borough media outlets.
