JUNE 2020 COUNCIL MEETING

 

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

            In the past month the PWD did maintenance on equipment, Borough property and streets.

·       Building checks.

·       Annual sprinkler, extinguisher and kitchen hood inspections.

·       Replaced motor on sprinkler compressor. 

·       Electrical repairs and housekeeping in old fire station.

·       Equipment maintenance.

·       Weekly lawn maintenance on Borough properties.

·       PA One Call (6).

·       Litter patrol.

·       Dog Park.

·       Secured Park.

·       Rebuilt several mini golf features.

·       Hauled mulch donated to Borough by A. Scott Enterprises, Inc.

 

ZONING OFFICE

In May the following permits were issued:  3 residential building, 1 commercial renovation, 6 zoning, 1 mechanical, 4 fence permits and 1 dumpster.  Also processed: 4 rental property licensing registration, 1 residential rental inspection and 1 re-sale property inspection. The Zoning Officer can be reached at 610-863-1821 or at zoning@penargylborough.com  PERMITTING AND INSPECTIONS ARE NOW ALLOWED.  THERE IS STILL NO FACE TO FACE INTERACTIONS, WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE. PLEASE NOTE ALL CDC GUIDELINES WILL BE STRICTLY FOLLOWED.

 

LOOKOUT FIRE COMPANY

            In May the Lookout Fire Company responded to 3 calls.  They spent 50 hours on calls and logged an additional 110 hours on drills.  The Sportsman Drawing and Meat Raffle will be held on August 1, 2020, purchase your tickets through any member of Lookout Fire Co. No. 1. www.lookoutfireco.com  or check out their Facebook page. Pen Argyl birthday runs will only take place the 1st Saturday of each month in the afternoon from Noon -3 P.M. To be placed on the list please call Lookout Fire Co. No. 1 at 610-863-4121, leave a message with your name, phone number and the address location for the drive by. They will return your call to confirm you are on the list. They kindly ask you to call no less than 2 days prior to the date of the run.

 

WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

            Monthly, weekly and quarterly sampling was done, all comply.  Equipment, plant and pumping station maintenance was completed.  DEP inspection passed.  Replaced wet well floats, equalization tanks cleaned, and grit and screening dumpsters emptied. Variable frequency pumps replaced. Truck inspected.  DEP inspection, no issues. There will be no additional penalties or interest accumulated on delinquent sewer bills until July 1, 2020.

 

TAX COLLECTOR

            Real Estate and Per Capita payments will no longer be received in person at 501 George Street,

Pen Argyl, PA, please utilize black drop off box located at same location. If receipts are needed, please have both parts of bill enclosed in the drop off box. You can also mail your payments to: Pen Argyl Tax Collector, 501 George Street, Pen Argyl, PA 18072. Please call 610-863-9487 if you have any questions.  The Borough Council has extended the base pay time period.  No penalties will be added to tax bills until after

July 31, 2020. 

 

BUILDING PERMITS  

            The Borough of Pen Argyl requires building permits to construct or alter a structure, construct an addition to an existing structure (this includes decks), demolish or move a structure and install or alter any equipment which is regulated by the building code (i.e.: heating, air conditioning, plumbing and electrical service).  Ordinary repairs do not require a permit (new gutters, painting, replacement of windows if not altering original opening.) Ordinary repairs DO NOT INCLUDE: cutting away of any walls, removal, replacement, re-enforcement of any structural beam or loadbearing support, the removal or change of required means of egress, addition to, alteration of or replacement or relocation of any water supply, sewer, drainage, gas, waste, vent or similar piping, electrical wiring and mechanical equipment. The permit process is designed to ensure that the erection, repair, removal, demolition, or change of occupancy of a building be accomplished in compliance with the building code.

 

FERAL CAT PROGRAM

THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN DEEMED NON-ESSENTIAL BY THE GOVERNOR’S ORDERS.  PROGRAM WILL BEGIN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE WHEN RESTRICTIONS ARE LIFTED.

 

            Borough Newsletter- The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting. It can be found on our website at www.penargylborough.com and you can receive the newsletter online by going to our website and requesting it. While on the web site make sure you like us on Facebook!

Garbage/Recycling -Regular bulk collection will resume June 1, 2020.  Bulk items could include small furniture, carpet mattress or an appliance.  Garbage collection is every Friday.  Recycling will be on June 5th & 19th and July 3rd, 17th & 31st.   Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before 2 P.M. on the day before pickup.

Yard Sales- are postponed until July 10th-July 12th.

Blue Mountain Community Library- The library will be reopening 6/13 for curbside service only.  Call library for more details or check their website:   https://www.bmcl.org
