JUNE 2018



·       Enacted Ordinance #698 to incur debt with ESSA Bank & Trust for the construction of Lookout Fire Company Fire Station in the amount of $2,221,000.00.



·       Agreed to table the decision on S. Robinson Avenue turnback until more information on the repair of E Street is known.

·       Approved YMCA’s request for approval to close roads during the Slate Belt Sprint Event on 9/1/2018.

·       Accepted the 2017 Audits.

·       Agreed to support the Slate Belt Rising Marketing Campaign to market the Slate Belt in the Poconos and the Greater Lehigh Valley with $2,000.00.

·       Agreed to apply for the 2019 CIPP Grant with Slate Belt Rising to do a revitalization and community plan for Pen Argyl Borough and match $10,000.00 towards a potential $60,000 cost.



            In the past month, the PWD did maintenance on equipment, Borough property and streets.

·       Maintained & repaired trucks, prepped mowers and tractors for seasonal work.

·       Daily maintenance of park properties and buildings.

·       Repair and clean up vandalized areas of the park.

·       Golf Course set up.

·       Mulched playground and planted flowers around park.

·       Weekly lawn maintenance on Borough properties.

·       Daily cleanup of Memorial Day celebration.

·       Litter patrol.

·       Maintenance and cleaning of Community Center.

·       Spray patch.

·       Pot hole patching.

·       Repaired various street signs.

·       Meter checks.

·       Prepped park for Founders Day



In the past month, the Zoning/Code Office completed 5 re-sale property inspections, 4 rental property inspections, issued 1 building permit, 1 electrical permit, 3 sidewalk permits, 2 fence permits and processed 5 rental registrations.  2nd notices to landlords for rental registrations went out in March, if not paid you will be cited and fined.  The Zoning Officer can be reached at 610-863-1821 or at 



             The Slate Belt Regional Police Department has placed a permanent “prescription medication drop box” at police department headquarters for citizens to safely dispose of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.             The Fire Company responded to 11 calls in the month of May.  There were 220 hours spent on drills and 282 on calls for a total of 502-man hours by our volunteers.   For more information on any of these announcements please email or call 610-863-4121.




            Monthly, weekly and quarterly sampling was done, all are complying with regulations. Equipment, plant and pumping station maintenance was completed. Pumping Stations, EQ pumps cleaned and repaired.  Answered and marked 27 PA One Calls. UV -7 bulbs replaced. UV shelter was completed.  Yearly calibrations on lab balances completed.

            It is the responsibility for all landlords to get property inspected prior to a new tenant moving into the property and to update the tenant registration form.  If you are in arrears with any Borough fees you will not get a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) to occupy the building. 


            Borough Newsletter- The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting. It can be found on our website at and you can receive the newsletter online by going to our website and requesting it. While on the web site make sure you like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter!!!!!

Garbage/Recycling – Recycling will be on June 8th & 22nd and Sat., July 7th (due to Independence Day Holiday) and July 20th.   Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before 2 P.M. on the day before pickup.

Park hours – All sections of the park are now closed at dusk.

Curfew – Minors are reminded that Pen Argyl has a curfew.  Minors under the age of 18 are not to be on any public street, alley, and sidewalk or at Weona Park between the hours of 11 P.M. and 6 A.M.

Blue Mountain Community Library- Fundraiser at Blue Ridge Winery –6/15, 4 P.M. -6 P.M.

Tickets are $20 each and include five tastings, hot foods, a wineglass, tour of the facility, and a chance to win the door prize! Fundraiser at The Old Mill – 6/27, 11 A.M.-8 P.M.  The library announces exciting summer reading programs for children, young adults, and adults! All ages will have the opportunity to read books and earn great prizes. Beginning 6/18, pick up participation materials.  The children’s program and “book bingo” for young adults and adults run through 8/11.  Nature Adventure Programs- 10 A.M. – 12 Noon at Waste Management Environmental Education Center- -6/22-Owls; 7/13-Composting; 8/17- Recycling.    Book Club – 6/19 – The Voice Inside by Brian Freeman, July – No book discussion; 8/21 – The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn; 9/18 – Never Caught by Erica Armstrong Dunbar; 10/16 – The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah; 11/20 – Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann. Book group meetings begin at 6:30 PM.  The public is invited to the next board meeting, scheduled for 6/20 at 6:30 P.M.
