JULY 2018



·       Accepted Dennis Miller’s resignation from the Public Works Department.  The Borough thanks Denny for his close to 40 years of service to the Borough as an employee and wishes him much health and happiness in his retirement.

·       Hired John Spadoni and William Parr as full-time employees of the Public Works Department to replace recent vacancies in the department.

·       Approved Barry Isett & Associates proposal for Delabole Junction leveling and paving project.

·       Agreed to allow Block Party on the 100 block of E.  Mountain Avenue on the 4th of July.

·       Agreed to extend the electricity contract with Constellation for 24 months to lock in prices.

·       Adopted Resolution 2018-08 for RACP Grant process.



            In the past month, the PWD did maintenance on equipment, Borough property and streets.

·       Daily maintenance of park properties and buildings.

·       Repair of street garage door.

·       Repair of community center air conditioner.

·       Boilers in street garage, community center and scout hall.

·       Weekly lawn maintenance on Borough properties.

·       Weeding & mulching gardens.

·       Maintenance and cleaning of Community Center, Hamburger Stand and Sausage Stand.

·       Catch basin cleaning and wash outs.

·       Repaired various street signs.

·       Meter checks and repairs.

·       Pothole patching



In the past month, the Zoning/Code Office completed 6 re-sale property inspections, 8 rental property inspections, issued 3 building permits, 1 electrical permit, and 1yard sale permit. The office also processed 1 rental registration and 3 zoning applications.  The Zoning Officer can be reached at 610-863-1821 or at 



             The Slate Belt Regional Police Department has placed a permanent “prescription medication drop box” at police department headquarters for citizens to safely dispose of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.             The Fire Company responded to 12 calls in the month of June.  There were 221 hours spent on drills and 245 on calls for a total of 466-man hours by our volunteers.   For more information on the Fire Company please email or call 610-863-4121.



            Monthly, weekly and quarterly sampling was done, all are complying with regulations. Equipment, plant and pumping station maintenance was completed. Pumping Stations, EQ pumps cleaned and repaired.  Answered and marked 28 PA One Calls. Grit and screening samples gathered and shipped. Well meters read.

            It is the responsibility for all landlords to get property inspected prior to a new tenant moving into the property and to update the tenant registration form.  If you are in arrears with any Borough fees you will not get a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) to occupy the building. 



             If you are moving into, within or out of the Borough it is essential for you to come to the Borough Office and obtain a moving permit. The cost for the permit is $1.  This includes any individual moving in with a roommate or with a family member.  This permit is necessary for school enrollment and per capita taxes.  Upon obtaining a permit you will receive a welcome packet with important Borough information.  If you are moving out of the Borough, you must obtain a moving permit or you will continue to be billed for the per capita tax.


            Borough Newsletter- The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting. It can be found on our website at and you can receive the newsletter online by going to our website and requesting it. Garbage/Recycling – Recycling will be on July 20th and August 3rd, 17th & 31st.  Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before 2 P.M. on the day before pickup.

Park hours – All sections of the park are now closed at dusk.

Curfew – Minors are reminded that Pen Argyl has a curfew.  Minors under the age of 18 are not to be on any public street, alley, and sidewalk or at Weona Park between the hours of 11 P.M. and 6 A.M.

Blue Mountain Community Library-  The library’s summer reading programs continue for children, young adults, and adults! All ages will have the opportunity to read books and earn great prizes.  The children’s program and “book bingo” for young adults and adults run through 8/11.  Nature Adventure Programs- 10 A.M. – 12 Noon at Waste Management Environmental Education Center- -7/13-Composting and 8/17- Recycling.    Book Club –8/21 – The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn; 9/18 – Never Caught by Erica Armstrong Dunbar; 10/16 – The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah; 11/20 – Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann. Book group meetings begin at 6:30 PM.  The public is invited to the next board meeting, scheduled for 7/18 at 6:30 P.M. Fund raisers-7/29 Weona Park Summer Sounds-6 P.M. rain or shine; Emmy Lou’s from 5 P.M. -9 P.M. on 8/21.

Solarize Lehigh Valley Program-Sustainable Energy Fund and Evoke Solar, a solar installer located in Hellertown, have partnered together and launched the Solarize Lehigh Valley Campaign.  Through this campaign, individuals and small businesses within the Lehigh Valley are eligible to receive solar installation for below market rates.  The deadline for signing up to be eligible for the discount is October 1.  To sign up, please visit or call Sustainable Energy Fund at 610.264.4440.  Please feel free to call Sustainable Energy Fund with any questions you may have.
