PEN ARGYL BOROUGH NEWS

JULY 2019

 

 

JULY 2nd COUNCIL MEETING

·       Agreed to purchase two (2) Dodge 5500 dump trucks to replace PWD pick up and GMC 06.

·       Agreed to purchase G23 Engine breaker/post driver with driving, tamping & breaking attachments. 

·       Accepted proposal from Pinto Concrete Construction for repair of B Street sidewalks.

·       Agreed to apply for CIPP funding for a stormwater survey and mapping project.

·       Agreed to advertise for bids for Band Shell Improvements.

·       Agreed to pursue truck restrictions on George Street per PennDOT guidelines.

·       Approved Block Party request for 8/24, E Laurel from N. Robinson Ave. to N. Schanck Ave.

·       Granted waivers and conditionally approved YMCA Land Development Submission.

·       Agreed to enter into a contract with No Nonsense Neutering to provide vouchers to the first 50 residents to trap, neuter and return feral cats.  More information will be coming.

 

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

            In the past month, the PWD did maintenance on equipment, Borough property and streets.

·       Maintained & repaired trucks, prepped mowers and tractors.

·       Daily maintenance and or cleaning of park properties and buildings.

·       Weekly lawn maintenance on Borough properties.

·       Pot hole patrols.

·       Mulched playground

·       Basin cleanings & storm washouts.

·       Debris cleaning from Moyer Ave. trash rack.

·       Installed berm along driveways on E. Laurel Avenue & Moyer diverting stormwater.

·       Excavated & repaired buckled pavement at 621 William Street.

·       Brush clean up-Babbitt & Albion Aves. and around stop sign at E. Mountain & Hazen Aves.

·       Attended pool feasibility study meeting and Lobb Ave. pre-bid meeting.

 

ZONING OFFICE

In the past month, the Zoning/Code Office completed 9 re-sale property inspections, 3 rental property inspections, issued 1 building permit, 1 electrical permit, 2 plumbing permits, 2 yard sale permits and processed 16 rental registrations, 1 zoning hearing application, 2 zoning permits.  The Zoning Officer can be reached at 610-863-1821 or at zoning@penargylborough.com 

 

POLICE DEPARTMENT

             In June officers responded to 632 calls for service, with 222 in Pen Argyl. 

 

LOOKOUT FIRE COMPANY

            The Fire Company responded to 12 calls in the month of June.  There were 201 hours spent on drills and 165 on calls for a total of 366 man hours by our volunteers.   For more information on any of these announcements please email info@lookoutfireco.com or call 610-863-4121.

 

WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

            Monthly, weekly and quarterly sampling was done, all are complying with regulations. Equipment, plant and pumping station maintenance was completed. Pumping Stations, EQ pumps cleaned.  Answered and marked 15 PA One Calls. Yearly calibrations of lab balances, utility water valve repaired, UV system cleaned & serviced, HVAC pump repaired and auto dialer battery replaced.

 

 

TAX COLLECTOR

            Michael T. Zavacky, the office is located at 501 George Street, phone number 610-863-9487.  Office hours are by appointment only.   Any person with disabilities, please call ahead for special arrangements.

 

LANDLORD RESPONSIBILITY

            It is the responsibility for all landlords to get property inspected prior to a new tenant moving into the property and to update the tenant registration form.  If you are in arrears with any Borough fees you will not get a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) to occupy the building. 

 

SLATE BELT RISING COMMUNITY GARDEN

            Pen Argyl Borough now has a community garden and it needs volunteers.  Please contact Councilwoman Janell Connolly (484-707-5961) if you would like to more information on how to get involved.

 

            Borough Newsletter- The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting. It can be found on our website at www.penargylborough.com and you can receive the newsletter online by going to our website and requesting it. While on the web site make sure you like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter!!!!!

Garbage/Recycling – Recycling will be on July 19th & August 2nd, 16th and 30th.  Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before 2 P.M. on the day before pickup.  WM’s community line is 1-888-373-2917 for any hauling or odor issues and concerns.  DEP hotline for odor concerns is 1-866-255-5158. Curfew – Minors are reminded that Pen Argyl has a curfew.  Minors under the age of 18 are not to be on any public street, alley, and sidewalk or at Weona Park between the hours of 11 P.M. and 6 A.M.

Blue Mountain Community Library- Fundraiser at Scorecard Sports Bar & Grill, 130 N. Broadway, Wind Gap, 7/24, from 4 P.M. to closing. Sunday, 8/18, pie sale at Weona Park Summer Sounds, 6 P.M. The library announces exciting summer reading programs for children. Please go to:  https://www.bmcl.org   for more information. Book Club: July – No book discussion; 8/20 – The Book of Unknown Americans by Christina Henriquez (For the August event, the first 7 registrants get a free copy of the book! The book will also be available for checkout). Sign-ups and books will be available starting June 1.; Book group meetings begin at 6:30 PM.  The public is invited to the next board meeting, scheduled for 6/19 at 6:30 P.M.
