·       Senator Mario Scavello, Representative Marcia Hahn, Pennsylvania Association of Boroughs and Borough Council presented Robert O’Donnell with citations and the Cecil K Leberknight Award for his over ten years of service as a Borough Council member in Pen Argyl. 

·       Awarded the Delabole Junction Road improvements bid to Bracalente Construction, Inc. in the amount of $149,111.00.  Project should start in mid-August.

·       Adopted Resolution 2018-09 adopting the 2018 Master Site Plan for Weona Park.

·       Approved request for handicap parking sign at 643 George Street.

·       Accepted Barry Isetts & Associates proposal for project representative for the Lookout Fire Station Project.

·       Agreed to purchase full page ad in the Pen Argyl Football Program.

·       Agreed to allow the closing of E. Laurel from N. Robinson Ave. to N. Schanck Ave. on August 25, 2018 for a block party.



            In the past month, the PWD did maintenance on equipment, Borough property and streets.

·       Daily maintenance of park properties and buildings.

·       Pressure washed tot lot pavilion.

·       Weekly lawn maintenance on Borough properties.

·       Weeding & mulching golf course.

·       Slate sign removal.

·       Maintenance and cleaning of Community Center, Hamburger Stand and Sausage Stand.

·       Reported streetlight outages.

·       Catch basin cleaning and wash outs.

·       Repaired catch basin on Railroad Ave.

·       Meter checks and repairs.

·       Cleaned up N. Lobb & Mountain Ave. of pavement debris then filled washed out area.

·       Tree and brush trimming along Delabole Junction Road.

·       Cut back brush on Cedar Alley



In the past month, the Zoning/Code Office completed 6 re-sale property inspections, 8 rental property inspections, issued 4 building permits, 1 electrical permit, 1 plumbing permit and 1-yard sale permit. 3 rental inspections and 6 re-sale inspections were completed.  The office also processed 3 rental registrations and 2 zoning applications.  The Zoning Officer can be reached at 610-863-1821 or at 



             The Slate Belt Regional Police Department has placed a permanent “prescription medication drop box” at police department headquarters for citizens to safely dispose of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Contact information for the SBRPD is:  911 (Emergency), 610-759-8517 (Non-Emergency) and 610-759-8523 (Fax).   During the month of July, they responded to 589 calls with 170 in Pen Argyl.



            The Fire Company responded to 19 calls and 2 burn complaints in the month of June.  There were 237 hours spent on drills and 545 on calls for a total of 782-man hours by our volunteers.  The 83rd annual Labor Day Celebration will be 8/31-9/3.   See their website for more details  For more information on the Fire Company please email or call 610-863-4121. 





            Monthly, weekly and quarterly sampling was done, all are complying with regulations. Equipment, plant and pumping station maintenance was completed. Pumping Stations, EQ pumps cleaned and repaired.  Answered and marked 71 PA One Calls. UV ballasts replaced.

            It is the responsibility for all landlords to get property inspected prior to a new tenant moving into the property and to update the tenant registration form.  If you are in arrears with any Borough fees you will not get a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) to occupy the building. 



             If you are moving into, within or out of the Borough it is essential for you to come to the Borough Office and obtain a moving permit. The cost for the permit is $1.  This includes any individual moving in with a roommate or with a family member.  This permit is necessary for school enrollment and per capita taxes.  Upon obtaining a permit you will receive a welcome packet with important Borough information.  If you are moving out of the Borough, you must obtain a moving permit or you will continue to be billed for the per capita tax.


            Borough Newsletter- The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting. It can be found on our website at and you can receive the newsletter online by going to our website and requesting it. Garbage/Recycling – Recycling will be on August 17th & 31st and September 14th & 28th.  Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before 2 P.M. on the day before pickup.

Park hours – All sections of the park are now closed at dusk.

Curfew – Minors are reminded that Pen Argyl has a curfew.  Minors under the age of 18 are not to be on any public street, alley, and sidewalk or at Weona Park between the hours of 11 P.M. and 6 A.M.

Blue Mountain Community Library-  The library’s summer reading programs ends 8/11.   Nature Adventure Program- 10 A.M. – 12 Noon at Waste Management Environmental Education Center-  8/17- Recycling.    Book Club –8/21 – The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn; 9/18 – Never Caught by Erica Armstrong Dunbar; 10/16 – The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah; 11/20 – Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann. Book group meetings begin at 6:30 PM.  The public is invited to the next board meeting, scheduled for 8/15 at 6:30 P.M. Fund raiser- Emmy Lou’s from 5 P.M. -9 P.M. on 8/21.
