PEN ARGYL BOROUGH NEWS

AUGUST 2021

 

AUGUST 3rd COUNCIL MEETING

·       Approved a request to get cost quotes and scope of services to proceed with stormwater project.

·       Agreed to support and contribute $2,000.00 to Slate Belt Rising’s Hotel Tax application.

·       Agreed to proceed with wayfinding signs for downtown Pen Argyl.

·       Directed Borough Manager to begin funding discussions for a water amenity at Weona Park with the DCNR.

·       Approved Resolution 2021-4 to apply for a Local Share Account Grant from Northampton/Lehigh County in the amount of $274,650.00 for upgrades to Weona Park’s playground area.

·       Approved Resolution 2021-5 to apply for a Local Share Account Grant from Monroe County in the amount of $274,650.00 for upgrades to Weona Park’s playground area.

·       Agreed to commit $20,100.00 for a match to the LSA grants.

 

PUBLIC WORKS

            During the month of July, the Public Works Department performed scheduled maintenance tasks and completed all requested tasks.   

 

ZONING/CODE DEPARTMENT

In July, the following permits were issued: 1 commercial renovation, I inground pool, 1 above ground pool, 2 electrical, 2 demolitions, 1 fence and 1 dumpster.   Also completed; 1 commercial re-sale, 12 residential re-sale property inspections, 1 commercial rental property inspection, 5 rental inspections and processed 3 rental registrations. Code enforcement issued 6 notice of violations, 2 quality of life tickets and 8 warnings regarding property maintenance violations.  Landlords are reminded to contact the Zoning Officer to schedule inspection of rental properties to comply with the Licensing of Rental Properties Ordinance. SLATE BELT REGIONAL POLICE

Contact information for the SBRPD is:  911 (Emergency), 610-759-8517 (non-Emergency) and

610-759-8523 (Fax).  In June officers responded to 450 calls for service, with 112 in Pen Argyl.

PROPERTY MAINTENANCE REMINDER

 The Borough would like to encourage those living in the Borough to have pride in their lawns, sidewalks and curb lines by keeping their lawns and park strips (those strips of grass between the sidewalk and roadway) mowed and the curb line and sidewalks free of weeds. 

WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

            Monthly, weekly and quarterly sampling was done, all comply.  Monitoring reports and lab results are compiled and submitted as required.  Equipment, plant and pumping station maintenance was completed.  Answered and marked 27 PA One Calls. Digester blower #1 serviced.  Light lamps replaced in driveway and SBR tank #3.  Annual grit profile completed.  Replaced batteries in Godwin pump & West End pumping station generator.  Employee David Mondello completed his certification to be an Operator.  Congratulations!

 

TAX COLLECTOR

            Real Estate and Per Capita payments will no longer be received in person at 501 George Street,

Pen Argyl, PA, please utilize black drop off box located at same location. If receipts are needed, please have both parts of bill enclosed in the drop off box. You can also mail your payments to: Pen Argyl Tax Collector, 501 George Street, Pen Argyl, PA 18072. Please call 610-863-9487 if you have any questions. 

 

FERAL CAT PROGRAM

            This is just a reminder that the Borough has continued their contract with No Nonsense Neutering.  If there is a colony of cats living near your home (and their left ear is NOT tipped), contact the Borough office at 610-863-4119 for information about the trap neuter return program exclusively for feral cats. Free vouchers provided with proof of residency.  

 

STORMWATER REMINDER

            When winterizing your pool, please be reminded, it is illegal to discharge chlorinated swimming pool water or pool water that contains biocides or other chemicals to the storm drain system.

            Borough Newsletter- The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting.  It can be found on our website at www.penargylborough.com .   You can receive the newsletter by email by contacting: manager@penargylborough.com and requesting it.  You will need to provide your name, address, and email contact.  You can also find us on Facebook.

Summer Sounds at Weona Park: 8/15 Inch and the Echoes.  Concert starts at 6 P.M.

Garbage/Recycling –Garbage collection is every Friday.  Recycling will be on August 13th & 27th, as well as September 11th (delayed because of holiday) & 24th.  Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before 2 P.M. on the day before pickup.

Blue Mountain Community Library- Check library website for hours and curbside service.  Mask mandatory.
