PEN ARGYL BOROUGH NEWS

AUGUST 2019

 

AUGUST 6th  COUNCIL MEETING

·       Awarded Band Shell Structural Repairs to Estimating Systems (RC Construction Associates, Inc.) in the amount of $108,622.00.

·       Approved Handicap Parking space for 526 W. Pennsylvania Avenue.

·       Appointed Chris Brumbaugh to Zoning Hearing Board.

·       Agreed to apply for LSA funding for ADA improvements at Borough Hall entranceway.

·       Accepted bid from George’s Plumbing the amount of $20,550.00 for labor and materials to replace three (3) Chronolox wall mounted area heaters at WWTP.

·       Accepted proposal from Cla-Val in the amount of $2,947.00 to rebuild pressure regulator at WWTP.

·       Approved Change Orders in the amount of $37,141.25 for various items for the Fire Station.

·        

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

            In the past month, the PWD did maintenance on equipment, Borough property and streets.

·       Maintained & repaired trucks, prepped mowers and tractors.

·       Daily maintenance and or cleaning of park properties and buildings.

·       Weekly lawn maintenance on Borough properties.

·       Community Center roof overhang repair completed.

·       Repaired Fire Company’s social hall door.

·       Pot hole patrols.

·       Basin cleanings & storm washouts.

·       Shoulder cleaning of Delabole Junction Road.

·       Completed repairs to depressed area roadways on Vine Street and Ridge Avenue.

·       Meter checks and coin collection.

 

ZONING OFFICE

In the past month, the Zoning/Code Office completed 5 re-sale property inspections, 12 rental property inspections, issued 1 building permit, 1 electrical permit, 2 sidewalk permits, 1-yard sale permit and processed 1 rental registration, 2 zoning permits and 1 planning review application.  The Zoning Officer can be reached at 610-863-1821 or at zoning@penargylborough.com 

 

POLICE DEPARTMENT

             In July officers responded to 681 calls for service, with 226 in Pen Argyl. 

 

LOOKOUT FIRE COMPANY

            The Fire Company responded to 10 calls in the month of July.  There were 132 hours spent on drills and 225 on calls for a total of 357 man hours by our volunteers.   For more information on any of these announcements please email info@lookoutfireco.com or call 610-863-4121. WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

            Monthly, weekly and quarterly sampling was done, all are complying with regulations. Equipment, plant and pumping station maintenance was completed. Pumping Stations, EQ pumps cleaned.  Answered and marked 11 PA One Calls. SBR blowers scheduled service and new centrifuge screw installed.  DEP inspection complete.

TAX COLLECTOR

            Michael T. Zavacky, the office is located at 501 George Street, phone number 610-863-9487.  Office hours are by appointment only.   Any person with disabilities, please call ahead for special arrangements.

 

LANDLORD RESPONSIBILITY

            It is the responsibility for all landlords to get property inspected prior to a new tenant moving into the property and to update the tenant registration form.  If you are in arrears with any Borough fees you will not get a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) to occupy the building. 

 

SLATE BELT RISING

            The Slate Belt Bash will be held on September 29, 2019 at Weona Park, Pen Argyl from 11 A.M. to

4 P.M.  Road Rally Scavenger Hunt from 9 A.M. to 12 P.M. REGISTRATION DEADLINE  9/6/19.   There will be food trucks, beer and wine, FREE games for children and teens and live music from 2 local bands.  Contact Stephen at 484-523-0900 or www.slatebeltrising.org for more information.

 

            Borough Newsletter- The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting. It can be found on our website at www.penargylborough.com and you can receive the newsletter online by going to our website and requesting it. Garbage/Recycling – Recycling will be on August 16th and 30th and September 13th & 27th. Garbage Pickup will be delayed to September 7th due to Labor Day Holiday.  Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before 2 P.M. on the day before pickup.  WM’s community line is 1-888-373-2917 for any hauling or odor issues and concerns.  DEP hotline for odor concerns is 1-866-255-5158. Curfew – Minors are reminded that Pen Argyl has a curfew.  Minors under the age of 18 are not to be on any public street, alley, and sidewalk or at Weona Park between the hours of 11 P.M. and 6 A.M.

Blue Mountain Community Library- Fundraiser at Emmy Lou’s Ice Cream, 492 E. Main St. on 8/20 from 5 P.M. to 9 P.M. Sunday, 8/18, pie sale at Weona Park Summer Sounds, 6 P.M.  for more information. Hope UCC Food Pantry from 8/5-9/28.  Accepting non-perishable items.  Book Club:8/20 – The Book of Unknown Americans by Christina Henriquez; 9/17 Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens; 10/15 Educated by Tara Westover.  Book group meetings begin at 6:30 PM.  9/4 at 10:30 A.M. will be first story time of the fall.  The public is invited to the next board meeting, scheduled for 8/21 at 6:30 P.M.
