APRIL 2018



·         Appointed Michael Nasatka Jr. as 1st Ward Councilman.

·         Approved placement of handicap sign at 112 N. Harding Avenue.

·         Agreed to apply for CDBG Grant Funding for N. & S. Lobb Avenue improvements

·         Agreed to purchase new trough drain for street garage.

·         Approved Faith United Presbyterian Church’s request to close S. Heller on 6/16/18 for Strawberry Festival.

·         2018 Community Wide Yard Sales will be held 6/08-6/10 & 9/14-9/16.

·         Agreed to sponsor essay contest for PASD Sr. High Students and have Special Meeting on April 24, 2018 to award essay contest winners.



            In the past month, the PWD did maintenance on equipment, Borough property and streets.

·         Assembled restroom fixtures for park.

·         Maintained & repaired trucks and spreaders for winter storms.

·         Prepped park for Easter Egg Hunt.

·         Litter patrol.

·         Maintenance and cleaning of Community Center.

·         Pot hole patching.

·         Plowing, salting & shoveling 3/2, 3/7- 3/9, 3/13, 3/14 & 3/21

·         Reported streetlight outages and repaired various street signs.

·         Tree maintenance

·         Meter checks.

·         Pothole patching.

·         Continued to work on B Street issues.



In the past month, the Zoning/Code Office completed 6 re-sale property inspections, 4 rental property inspections, issued 1 building permits, 1 dumpster permit and processed 45 rental registrations.  2nd notices to landlords for rental registrations went out in March, if not paid you will be cited and fined.  The Zoning Officer can be reached at 610-863-1821 or at  



             In March the Regional Police responded to 542 calls for service, 151 in the Borough of Pen Argyl.   Contact information for the SBRPD is:  911 (Emergency), 610-759-8517 (Non-Emergency) and 610-759-8523 (Fax). 



            The Lookout Fire Company’s Annual Sportsman Raffle will be held Saturday, 4/28 from

1 P.M. to 5 P.M. at Weona Park Community Center, 25 S. Main St., Pen Argyl, PA. A $10 admission includes a raffle ticket (30 prizes), free food and drink, door prizes and giveaways. The Spring Festival will be held 5/24 through 5/27 at Weona Park with live entertainment, rides, food, bingo, and more. The Fire Company is looking for additional food suppliers, crafters, vendors, local businesses, or even organizations looking for a great fundraiser opportunity for the weekend. The James Davey Social Hall at 11 N. Robinson Avenue is available to rent for all your parties, family gatherings, or any other occasions. The hall accommodates up to 75 people with a full kitchen, and more.  Lookout Fire Company is always seeking to have new members.  If you are over the age of 14 and want to have the chance to be a part of a great community team.             Monthly, weekly and quarterly sampling was done, all are in compliance. Equipment, plant and pumping station maintenance was completed. Pumping Stations, EQ pumps cleaned and repaired.  Answered and marked 14 PA One Calls. Maintained equipment during outages due to storms at plant and pumping stations. Reviewed grant opportunities. UV System monitoring screen replacement.

             If you are moving into, within or out of the Borough it is essential for you to come to the Borough Office and obtain a moving permit. The cost for the permit is $1.  This includes any individual moving in with a roommate or with a family member.  This permit is necessary for school enrollment and per capita taxes.  Upon obtaining a permit you will receive a welcome packet with important Borough information.  If you are moving out of the Borough, you must obtain a moving permit or you will continue to be billed for the per capita tax.



            It is the responsibility for all landlords to get property inspected prior to a new tenant can move into the property and to update the tenant registration form.  If you are in arrears with any Borough fees you will not get a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) to occupy the building. 


            Borough Newsletter- The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting. It can be found on our website at and you can receive the newsletter online by going to our website and requesting it. Garbage/Recycling – Recycling will be on April 13th & 27th and May 11th & 25th. 

.Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before 2 P.M. on the day before pickup.

Park hours – All sections of the park are now closed at dusk.

Curfew – Minors are reminded that Pen Argyl has a curfew.  Minors under the age of 18 are not to be on any public street, alley, and sidewalk or at Weona Park between the hours of 11 P.M. and 6 A.M.

Dog LicensesResidents are reminded to renew their dog licenses.  ANNUAL LICENSES ARE VALID FROM JANUARY 1 - DECEMBER 31.  State Law requires all dogs over 3 months of age to be licensed, owners of unlicensed dogs are subject to fines up to $300.00.Licenses are valid for the county in which the owner resides. Blue Mountain Community Library- Luncheon with author Kate Brandes! 4/26 at nearby Grace United Methodist Church in Pen Argyl. Spring silent auction beginning 4/2 through 5/5.   Book Club - 4/17 The Promise of Pierson Orchard by Kate Brandes; 5/15 Little Fires Everywhere by Celest Ng. Book group meetings begin at 6:30 PM.  The public is invited to the next board meeting, scheduled for 4/18 at 6:30 P.M.
