PEN ARGYL BOROUGH NEWS

APRIL 7th COUNCIL MEETING

 

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

            In the past month, the PWD did maintenance on equipment, Borough property and streets.

·       Maintenance and cleaning of Community Center.

·       Building checks.

·       Spring cleanup and mulched gardens.

·       Catch basin cleanings.

·       PA One Call (2).

·       Pothole patrol.

·       Weekly meter checks.

·       Dog Park construction – 3/5, 3/7, 3/9 & 3/10.

·       Hauled mulch - 3/9, 3/11 & 3/13.

·       Closed park to public.

 

ZONING OFFICE

In March, the following permits were issued:  2 commercial building, 2 electrical, 1 mechanical, 2 plumbing, 2 dumpster and 2 fence.  Also completed: 17 rental property licensing registrations, 4 rental inspections, 1 commercial re-sale and 7 re-sale property inspections. The Zoning Officer can be reached at 610-863-1821 or at zoning@penargylborough.com  ALL INSPECTIONS ARE PRESENTLY SUSPENDED DUE TO STATEWIDE SHUT DOWN ORDER. 

 

BUILDING PERMITS  

            The Borough of Pen Argyl requires building permits to construct or alter a structure, construct an addition to an existing structure (this includes decks), demolish or move a structure and install or alter any equipment which is regulated by the building code (i.e.: heating, air conditioning, plumbing and electrical service).  Ordinary repairs do not require a permit (new gutters, painting, replacement of windows if not altering original opening.) Ordinary repairs DO NOT INCLUDE: cutting away of any walls, removal, replacement, re-enforcement of any structural beam or loadbearing support, the removal or change of required means of egress, addition to, alteration of or replacement or relocation of any water supply, sewer, drainage, gas, waste, vent or similar piping, electrical wiring and mechanical equipment. The permit process is designed to ensure that the erection, repair, removal, demolition, or change of occupancy of a building be accomplished in compliance with the building code. THERE CAN BE NO PERMITS ISSUED AT THIS TIME.

 

 

LOOKOUT FIRE COMPANY

            The 4/18/2020 Sportsman Drawing and Meat Raffle has been postponed until AUUGUST 1, 2020, purchase your tickets through any member of Lookout Fire Co. No. 1. www.lookoutfireco.com  or check out their Facebook page.

 

WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

            Monthly, weekly and quarterly sampling was done, all comply.  Equipment, plant and pumping station maintenance was completed.  DEP inspection passed.  Replaced wet well floats, equalization tanks cleaned, and grit and screening dumpsters emptied. There will be no additional penalties or interest accumulated on delinquent sewer bills until further notice.

 

TAX COLLECTOR

            Real Estate and Per Capita payments will no longer be received in person at 501 George Street, Pen Argyl, PA, please utilize black drop off box located at same location. If receipts are needed, please have both parts of bill enclosed in the drop off box. You can also mail your payments to: Pen Argyl Tax Collector, 501 George Street, Pen Argyl, PA 18072. Please call 610-863-9487 if you have any questions.  The Borough Council has extended the base pay time period.  No penalties will be added to tax bills until after July 31, 2020. 

 

FERAL CAT PROGRAM

THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN DEEMED NON-ESSENTIAL BY THE GOVERNOR’S ORDERS.  PROGRAM WILL BEGIN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE WHEN RESTRICTIONS ARE LIFTED.

 

            Borough Newsletter- The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting. It can be found on our website at www.penargylborough.com and you can receive the newsletter online by going to our website and requesting it. While on the web site make sure you like us on Facebook!

Garbage/RecyclingBulk collection items cannot be picked up until further notice.  Garbage collection is every Friday. Recycling will be on April 10th & 24th and May 8th and 22nd. Note collection will be delayed to May 30th due to Memorial Day Holiday.   Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before 2 P.M. on the day before pickup. Blue Mountain Community Library- Due to the COVID-19 virus, the library continues to be closed until such time that they can reopen.  Continue checking their website for opening date.  Books can be placed in the book drop.    https://www.bmcl.org
