PEN ARGYL BOROUGH NEWS

APRIL 2021

 

APRIL 6th COUNCIL MEETING

·       Hannah Bonanducci, winner of the 2021 Essay Contest, read her essay to the Borough Council and will receive a check to assist with her continuing education.

·       Approved ICS’ request to close N. Heller Avenue between W. Bell & W. Babbitt Avenues on

May 26, 2021 from 8:15 A.M. until 2 P.M.

·       Conditionally approved the proposed Railroad Avenue residential land development.

·       Approved WSA Insurance’s insurance renewal proposal.

·       Approved a quote from Overhead Door Company of Allentown to replace garage door trolley at the street garage in the amount of $2,100.00.

·       Awarded Ocean Construction Services the Municipal Building ADA Access Improvements project in the amount of $43,050.00 and the add alternate performance coating for existing stairs in the amount of $4,170.00.

·       Approved Free Yard Sale dates for 6/11-6/13 & 9/17-9/19.

·       Passed Resolution 2021-02 urging all Pennsylvania legislators to oppose the proposal for a levy on local governments for the funding of Pennsylvania State Police.

·       Appointed Frank Febbo (Alternate Landlord), Jackie Hower (Primary Tenant) and Dawn Plummer (Alternate Tenant) to the Disruptive Conduct Hearing Board.

 

PUBLIC WORKS

            During the month of March, the Public Works Department performed scheduled maintenance tasks and completed all requested tasks.   

 

ZONING/CODE DEPARTMENT

Please note rental registration invoices were due March 1, 2021. If you do not register your rental you will be cited and fined. If you have any outstanding bills to the Borough your rental license may be revoked. In March, the following permits were issued:  1 building, 1 electrical, 1 sidewalk and 2 yard sale permits.  Also completed; 11 residential re-sale property inspections, 1 commercial re-sale property inspection, 10 rental inspections and processed 113 rental registrations. There were 3 Zoning applications processed. Landlords are reminded to contact the Zoning Officer to schedule inspection of rental properties to comply with the Licensing of Rental Properties Ordinance. Violators can be fined.  The Zoning Officer can be reached at 610-863-1821 or at zoning@penargylborough.com  

 

LOOKOUT FIRE COMPANY

            In March, the Lookout Fire Company responded to 7 calls.  They spent 201 hours on calls and logged an additional 156 hours on drills.  The Borough thanks our volunteers for assisting the Easter Bunny in visiting our families.  Lookout Fire Company’s website: www.lookoutfireco.com or check out their Facebook page.

 

 

WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

            Monthly, weekly, and quarterly sampling was done, all comply.  Monitoring reports and lab results are compiled and submitted as required.  Equipment, plant, and pumping station maintenance was completed.  Answered and marked 13 PA One Calls.  Screenings and grit dumpsters emptied. 6 UV bulbs replaced.  West End pump station force main repaired 3/4 & 3/21.  EQ tanks cleaned.

 

TAX COLLECTOR

            Real Estate and Per Capita payments will no longer be received in person at 501 George Street,

Pen Argyl, PA, please utilize black drop off box located at same location. If receipts are needed, please have both parts of bill enclosed in the drop off box. BOROUGH NEWSLETTER

            Borough Newsletter- The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting.  It can be found on our website at www.penargylborough.com .   You can receive the newsletter by email by contacting: manager@penargylborough.com and requesting it.  You will need to provide your name, address, and email contact.  You can also find us on Facebook.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!     ITEMS OF INTEREST!

 

Garbage/Recycling –Garbage collection is every Friday.  Recycling will be on April 9th and 23rd, as well as May 7th & 21st.  Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before 2 P.M. on the day before pickup.

Pen Argyl Spring Market- 50+ vendors, including your favorite local shopping, food, and wine!  Sat. 4/24, 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. South Robinson Avenue, Pen Argyl.  Rain Date 4/25.  CDC guidelines will be followed.

Bells Across Pennsylvania Day- Honor our COVID Hometown Heroes on May 2, 2021 at 7 P.M. by our Churches and residents ringing their bells for 3 minutes.

Dog LicensesResidents are reminded to renew their dog licenses. Licenses can be purchased at http://www.padoglicense.com or by contacting Northampton County at 610-829-6186, option 6.

Blue Mountain Community Library-.  Mr. Pastie Fundraiser through April 17th. Call library to order your tickets. Check library website for hours and curbside service Book Group will resume in the spring.  Virtual preschool story time and craft, posted on library Facebook page, call for your craft packet! As guidelines change due to the COVID-19 pandemic emergency, please continue to check with the Borough office, website, newsletter email and facebook as to the status of Borough meetings.  Some meetings will be held via video and audio advanced communication using the ZOOM internet application technology and telephone option, some meetings may be held in person.  If by Zoom, the meeting link and password or call-in information for the meetings can be obtained by emailing the Borough Manager at manager@penargylborough.com no later than 4:00 P.M. on a day of a meeting.   If held in person the location and time of the meeting will be on all Borough media outlets.
