MAY COUNCIL MEETING
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
During the past month, the Zoning/Code Office completed the following inspections; 2 building, 2 electrical, 2 plumbing, 6 re-sale and 7 rental. The following permits were issued 2 building, 2 plumbing, 1 mechanical, 1 sidewalk, 2 yard sale and 2 electrical. The office also processed 12 rental registrations and 3 zoning permits Citations will be sent out in May for those landlords who have not registered for 2016. SLATE BELT REGIONAL POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Department has a prescription drug “Take-Back “box at their 6292 Sullivan Trail, Nazareth, Pa office (Plainfield Township Municipal Building). Contact information for the SBRPD is: 911 (Emergency), 610-759-8517 (Non-Emergency) and 610-759-8523 (Fax). In March the department responded to 610 calls for service, 163 of them were in Pen Argyl.
LOOKOUT FIRE COMPANY
In March the department responded to 10 alarms. Total man hours on calls were 345, for training 256. Memorial Day Carnival will be held the end of the month, look for more information coming! Lookout Fire Company website: www.lookoutfireco.com
WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT
Monthly, weekly and quarterly sampling was done, all are in compliance. Equipment, plant and pumping station maintenance was completed. Centrifuge project is ongoing. Larvacide applied to reed beds. Computer board failed ran plant manually for 24 hours. UV sensors failing, new sensors ordered. Answered and marked 55 PA One Calls.

ITEMS OF NOTE:
There will be an onsite meeting on C Street, Wed., 5/18 at 6:00 P.M. to review the street project that will be occurring there over the summer. In case of rain the meeting will move to Borough Hall.
Community Yard Sales
Free, no permit Community Yard Sales will be June 10th- 12th and September 16th -18th.
Borough Newsletter- The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting. It can be found at the Borough Hall, Blue Mt. Community Library, PNC Bank, the Post Office, On the Spot Cleaners, Marcon Shoemaker, Cuono’s Barber Shop, Reto’s Barber Shop, Mr. Pasties, Pen Argyl Pizza, Emmy Lou’s, The Slate Pub, Elvern Farms and The Lunchroom. It can also be found on our website at www.penaryglborough.com . You can receive the newsletter online by going to our website and requesting it. Garbage/Recycling – Recycling will be on May 13th & 27th as well as June 10th & 24th. Due to Memorial Day holiday, garbage will be picked up on Sat., June 4th . The Borough Hall now has recycling stickers for your recycling containers. Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before 2 P.M. on the day before pickup.
Park hours – All sections of the park are now closed at dusk.
Curfew – Minors are reminded that Pen Argyl has a curfew. Minors under the age of 18 are not to be on any public street, alley, and sidewalk or at Weona Park between the hours of 11 P.M. and 6 A.M.
Dog Licenses– Residents are reminded to renew their dog
licenses. ANNUAL LICENSES ARE VALID FROM
JANUARY 1 - DECEMBER 31. State Law
requires all dogs over 3 months of age to be licensed, owners of unlicensed
dogs are subject to fines up to $300.00.Licenses are valid for the county in
which the owner resides. For additional dog license information, please contact

Blue Mountain Community Library- The summer reading program for Pen Argyl School District will run from 6/6 through 8/20. The school books will be available during that period. The public is invited to the next board meeting, scheduled for 5/18 at 6:30 P.M. Lunch with Karen Katchur, a local author! 5/10 at 12 PM, Grace United Methodist Church, 404 E. Mountain Ave. Enjoy soup, sandwich, snack, dessert, and a beverage as Katchur discusses and signs copies of her book, The Secrets of Lake Road. Tickets are just $10 each and on sale through 5/7 at the library. Dine at Detzi’s Tavern, 5/23, 4-9 P.M. bring a “coupon” from the library or get one at the door so that your meal purchase helps support the library. Book Discussion Group meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:30 P.M.; 5/17 – A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman;
6/21 – The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah Do you have four hours a month that you could donate to the library? The library needs more volunteers. The library is always collecting Weis' receipts. Please keep yours and donate them to the library.
