PUBLIC WORKS

            During the month of May the Public Works Department performed scheduled maintenance tasks and completed all requested tasks.   

 

ZONING/CODE DEPARTMENT

If you have a complaint about a property in the Borough you can now go to http://penargylborough.com/PABAdmin/images/PM_Complaint_Form.pdf or come to the Borough office and fill it out and return to the Borough Office.  All complaints are handled with discretion.  Anonymous complaints will not be investigated. In May, the following permits were issued:  1 building, 2 yard sale, 4 zoning, 1 dumpster, 1 plumbing and 2 electrical.  Also completed; 3 rental property licensing registrations, 4 rental inspections and 6 re-sale property inspections.  The Zoning Officer can be reached at 610-863-1821 or at zoning@penargylborough.com  

 

LOOKOUT FIRE COMPANY

            In May the Lookout Fire Company responded to 8 calls.  They spent 225 hours on calls and logged an additional 286 hours on drills.    Lookout Fire Company has a website: www.lookoutfireco.com  and facebook page!

WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

            Monthly, weekly and quarterly sampling was done, all are in compliance.  Equipment, plant and pumping station maintenance was completed.  There was one additional connection to the system.  Answered and marked 17 PA One Calls. 

 

SLATE BELT RISING

            Slate Belt Rising is looking for volunteers for committees that will assist the program to implement a community revitalization plan in the Boroughs of Wind Gap, Pen Argyl, Bangor and Portland.   Please contact Stephen Reider at 484-523-0900 or at sreider@caclv.org for more information. BOROUGH NEWSLETTER

            The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting.  It can be found at the Borough Hall or on our website at www.penaryglborough.com .   You can receive the newsletter by email by contacting: manager@penargylborough.com and requesting it.  You will need to provide your name, address and email contact.  While on the web site make sure you like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter!!!!!

Free Community Wide Yard Sales- No permit yard sale date is 9/15-9/17.

Garbage/Recycling –Garbage collection is every Friday, except for July 7th, delayed until July 8th because of Independence Day. Recycling will be on June 9th & 23rd as well as July 8th & 21st.  Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before

2 P.M. on the day before pickup.

Blue Mountain Community Library- Special summer reading program for children:  High Five Your Reading Drive! The program runs 6/12- 8/12. Children are encouraged to read at least five library books and keep a log of their titles to earn a free book of their choosing from the Book Nook. Nature Adventures at Waste Management 6/14, 7/12, & 8/9.  Therapy dog Quincy will be at storytime on 5/10 and 5/11.  The public is invited to the next board meeting, scheduled for 6/21 at 6:30 P.M. Adult book discussion group selections:   6/20– The Other Einstein by Marie Benedict; 8/15– 1984 (ch. 1-2.6) by George Orwell; 9/19– 1984 (ch. 2.7-end) by George Orwell; 10/17 – Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance.  Book group meetings begin at 6:30 P.M. Books are available for checkout.

 The next meetings for both will be held on August 7, 2017.

 

SUMMERTIME IN PEN ARGYL

 

SUMMER SOUNDS CONCERTS

On five (5) Sunday evenings, free concerts will be held at the Park’s Band Shell. On some evenings our local non-profits provide refreshments which are available for purchase.  Concerts begin at 6:00 P.M.

CAROUSEL & MINIATURE GOLF

Our National Historical Registered Carousel and Golf Course will be open Wednesday-Friday evenings 3 P.M.-9 P.M; Saturday and Sundays 12 Noon – 9 P.M., weather permitting.  Carousel Rides are $1.   A round of golf is $5 per person except for our Summer Sizzle Sale from Wed. – Fri.  when a round is only $3!!!!!!  Please note the first 9 holes of Weona Park Golf is handicap accessible.

Volunteers are always needed.  Jr. Firefighters, Sr. Firefighters and Fire Police.  Anyone interested in joining can stop by the fire hall on Monday nights or email info@lookoutfireco.com to learn how to become a member.  

 

NEWS FROM THE SLATE BELT RISING

Slate Belt Rising Residential Facade program is currently open and accepting applications, if you or someone you know is interested please call 484-523-0900 for additional information! Applications are available at the SBR Office at 197 Pennsylvania Ave. Bangor, PA 18013.  Look for more updates regarding events and opportunities for revitalizing our communities.   Recent funding for a Slate Belt Police Activity League, a Slate Belt Mini-Marathon,  IT upgrades for the HUB for children and adults to have access to computers, a field hockey league has been approved.  These will be forthcoming in the 2017-2018 fiscal year.  A web site will soon be launched to follow the progress of this, first of its kind, Neighborhood Partnership Program, a program of the Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley.
