PEN ARGYL BOROUGH NEWS

July 5, 2016

JUNE SPECIAL MEETING

·        Awarded W. Babbitt Avenue road reconstruction to Bruce George Paving & Excavating in the amount of $19,356.17.

·        Agreed to bid various road projects on PennBID.

·        Agreed to work with PennDOT on a solution to the water issue on Rt. 512/S. Main St area.

·        Adopted Resolution 2016-05 authorizing the execution of the Green Light Go Grant Agreement.

 

JULY COUNCIL MEETING

·        Awarded Reed Bed project to Amerigreen, Inc.

·        Agreed to have July 26, 2016 Special Meeting with the Municipal Authority for the refinancing of bond debt.

 

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

·        Various building maintenance projects underway

·        Maintained vehicles & equipment.

·        Weekly lawn maintenance on all Borough properties.

·        Stormwater best maintenance practices.

·        Utilized millings on north & west sides of park.

·        Pothole patrol throughout the Borough.

·        Traffic signal repair.

·        Meter checks.

·        Banner repairs & sneaker removal from cable lines.

·        Repaired picnic tables and bench slats at the park.

 

ZONING/CODE DEPARTMENT

During the past month, the Zoning/Code Office completed the following inspections; 1 building, 1 commercial re-sale, 5 re-sale and 3 rental.  The following permits were issued; 1 building, 1 electrical, 1 sign and 1 yard sale. The office also processed 4 rental registrations and 2 zoning permits.   Citations will be sent out in July for those landlords who have not registered for 2016.  The Zoning/Code Officer, can be reached at 610-863-1821 or at zoning@penargylborough.com 

 

SLATE BELT REGIONAL POLICE DEPARTMENT

             The Department has a prescription drug “Take-Back “box at their 6292 Sullivan Trail, Nazareth, Pa office (Plainfield Township Municipal Building).  Contact information for the SBRPD is:  911 (Emergency), 610-759-8517 (Non-Emergency) and 610-759-8523 (Fax).  In June the department responded to 618 calls for service, 178 of them were in Pen Argyl.

 

LOOKOUT FIRE COMPANY

 Lookout Fire Co. #1 and Lukie's Fall Festival will host Slate Belt’s First Food Truck Festival! Food trucks scheduled to attended are: Aoili, Chick'n Cone, Trixie's Treats, and Stuffed to the Grills! Proceeds will benefit the Lookout Fire Co. #1’s David E. Mutton Memorial Scholarship and Lukie's Fall Festival to Cure Spinal Muscular Atrophy, (SMA). This Event will be held rain or Shine!! WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

            Monthly, weekly and quarterly sampling was done, all are in compliance.    Equipment, plant and pumping station maintenance was completed. Centrifuge is in operation.  Larvecide applied to reed beds.  Answered and marked 41 PA One Calls. 

 

TAX COLLECTOR

            Michael T. Zavacky, the office is located at 501 George Street, phone number 610-863-9487.  From June 1st on the office hours are by appointment only.   Any person with disabilities, please call ahead for special arrangements.

 

ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER

Thanks to the SBCOG!!!!! The Slate Belt now has a new Animal Control Officer to deal with stray dogs.  Please call the non-emergency number to the Regional Police at 610-759-8517 or the Borough office at 610-863-4119 to have the ACO dispatched. Borough Newsletter- The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting.  It can be found at the Borough Hall, Blue Mt. Community Library, PNC Bank, the Post Office, On the Spot Cleaners, Marcon Shoemaker, Cuono’s Barber Shop, Reto’s Barber Shop, Mr. Pasties,  Pen Argyl Pizza, Emmy Lou’s, The Slate Pub, Elvern Farms and The Lunchroom.  It can also be found on our website at www.penaryglborough.com .   You can receive the newsletter online by going to our website and requesting it. While on the web site make sure you like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter!!!!!

Garbage/Recycling – Recycling will be on July 9th & 22nd as well as August 5th & 19th. The Borough Hall now has recycling stickers for your recycling containers.  Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before 2 P.M. on the day before pickup. 

Curfew – Minors are reminded that Pen Argyl has a curfew.  Minors under the age of 18 are not to be on any public street, alley, and sidewalk or at Weona Park between the hours of 11 P.M. and 6 A.M.

Blue Mountain Community Library- The summer reading program for Pen Argyl School District will run through 8/20.  The school books will be available during that period. Check out the library’s facebook page; www.facebook.com/bmclpenargyl.  Nature Adventure --7/13-Browse Beautiful Butterflies and 8/ 3 Wonderful World of Wildflowers. Dress to explore!  Both one-hour events (story time and activities) will be outside (weather permitting) at the Waste Management Environmental Center at 891 Grand Central Road.  Each meeting will begin at 10 AM. Other summer events; 7/13-7/16:  special Book Nook sale; 8/1:  food drive for the Salvation Army begins; 8/3:  fundraiser at Wendy’s; 8/16:  fundraiser at Emmy Lou’s and 9/20:  fundraiser at Café on Broadway. The public is invited to the next board meeting scheduled for 7/20 at 6:30 P.M.
