APRIL 2016








            During the past month, the Zoning/Code Office completed the following inspections 3 building, 11 re-sale, 11 rental, 3 electrical 1 sidewalk, 1 sign and I plumbing.  The following permits were issued: 4 building, 3 dumpster, 1 plumbing and 4 electrical. The office also processed 121 rental registrations.  Citations will be sent out in April for those landlords who have not registered for 2016.  The Zoning/Code Officer, can be reached at 610-863-1821 or at  



             The Department has a prescription drug “Take-Back “box at their 6292 Sullivan Trail, Nazareth, Pa office (Plainfield Township Municipal Building).  Contact information for the SBRPD is:  911 (Emergency), 610-759-8517,  (Non-Emergency) and  610-759-8523 (Fax).  In March the department responded to 510 calls for service, 177 of them were in Pen Argyl. Overall the officers investigated 67 criminal offenses and made 37 arrests.



In March the department responded to 10 alarms.  Total man hours on calls were 315, for training 242.  A big shout out to member James Davey who has served Lookout Fire Company and the Borough for 50 years! THANKS JIM!!!!  Lookout Fire Company website:



            Monthly, weekly and quarterly sampling was done, all are in compliance.    Equipment, plant and pumping station maintenance was completed. Centrifuge project is ongoing. Consulted with Engineer on C Street lateral repair project. Water line repair completed.  Well meters read. Answered and marked 19 PA One Calls.

The Borough has received numerous inquiries as to what to do regarding the recent increase in landfill odors throughout the Borough.  You may report any odor problems to the Department of Environmental Protection at 1-866-255-5158 and choose extension 2.


Borough Newsletter- The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting.  It can be found at the Borough Hall, Blue Mt. Community Library, PNC Bank, the Post Office, On the Spot Cleaners, Marcon Shoemaker, Cuono’s Barber Shop, Reto’s Barber Shop, Mr. Pasties,  Pen Argyl Pizza, Emmy Lou’s, The Slate Pub and The Lunchroom.  It can also be found on our website at .   You can receive the newsletter online by going to our website and requesting it. Garbage/Recycling – Recycling will be on April 15th & 29th as well as May 13th & 27th.  The Borough Hall now has recycling stickers for your recycling containers.  Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before 2 P.M. on the day before pickup. 

Park hours – All sections of the park are now closed at dusk.

Curfew – Minors are reminded that Pen Argyl has a curfew.  Minors under the age of 18 are not to be on any public street, alley, and sidewalk or at Weona Park between the hours of 11 P.M. and 6 A.M.

Dog LicensesResidents are reminded to renew their dog licenses.  ANNUAL LICENSES ARE VALID FROM JANUARY 1 - DECEMBER 31.  State Law requires all dogs over 3 months of age to be licensed, owners of unlicensed dogs are subject to fines up to $300.00.Licenses are valid for the county in which the owner resides. Blue Mountain Community Library- Beginning at 10 A.M. and continuing on every Tuesday during the morning library hours, the library will hold coloring for adults on the second floor.  Materials will be provided, but attendees are welcome to bring their own.  You are invited to our upcoming board meeting, scheduled for 3/16 at 6:30 P.M. Lunch with Karen Katchur, a local author! 5/10 at 12 PM, Grace United Methodist Church, 404 E. Mountain Ave. Enjoy soup, sandwich, snack, dessert, and a beverage as Katchur discusses and signs copies of her book, The Secrets of Lake Road. Tickets are just $10 each and on sale through 5/7 at the library. Book Discussion Group meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:30 P.M.; 4/19The Secrets of Lake Road by Karen Katchur; 5/17The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah and 6/21 A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman. Do you have four hours a month that you could donate to the library? The library needs more volunteers. The library is always collecting Weis' receipts.  Please keep yours and donate them to the library.
